A community…

Every day we wake up, send kids to school, go to work, coach baseball, go to dance recitals, school functions, etc etc etc etc.  Most of us walk through life not thinking about the day to day and not thinking about the many others around us that drone on through in the same way.

Today many of us are thinking of those people.  Many of us are realizing what we have and how lucky we are to have it.  Early this morning I received an email from my kids’ school PTA president.  A local family lost everything in a house fire.  I wondered if I knew who they were.  Then not 15 minutes later I received an email from the father of a boy I coach in little league.  His son wouldn’t be at the game tonight, as their home burnt down.  He asked if we had another uniform, so his son could play Saturday.

I’m amazed at this guy for even thinking about a uniform to play little league when he has just lost everything!  I immediately emailed the player representative, who then emailed the league president and vice president.  The family has been contacted and many things are in motion to help them out.

Turns out, a community isn’t a bunch of drones moving through life with superficial interactions.  A community is a large group of caring people that, when called upon, motivate faster than I ever could have imagined.  I’m blown away at the school putting together a clothing drive and little league putting together some things as well.  All within a day!

My team has a game tonight and I plan on telling the team what has happened, hopefully motivating them to bring an extra toy or two to Saturday’s game.  It’s life lesson time, which is way more important than baseball.

The family has two kids.  If someone does not want to give money and wants to donate clothing they can.  The son wears a size 14/16 husky pant, a youth XL or Adult small shirt, and a size 6 youth for a shoe.  The daughter is a 5/6 slim in pants and tops and a 10/11 shoe.   The son plays baseball and basketball.  The daughter takes dance.
